Season Comes to an End in the Quarterfinals

The Alfred State softball team saw their season come to an end in the AMCC Quarterfinals on Monday. The Pioneers fell 9-1 and 10-2 to #1 Penn State Behrend.

In the opener, Alfred State jumped out a 1-0 lead three batters into the game. Sarah Boyce (Cortland) doubled to right to lead off the game and came around to score on a RBI single by Kailey Wonica (Staten Island/Moore Catholic).

Behrend answered with five runs of their own in the 5th and added two runs in the 2nd and two more in the 4th. Ashleigh Schmidt did the rest for the Lions as she didn't allow another hit after the 1st.

Game two started off similar to game one as the Pioneers jumped out to a lead in the 1st. Wonica doubled to left field to score Boyce and Krista Lovell (Addison) followed with a RBI single to left to make it 2-0. 

Behrend plated a run in the 1st and took the lead for good with five in the 2nd. They scored a single run in the 3rd and three more in the 4th.

Alfred State collected five hits in the nightcap. Lovell finished 2 for 2.

The Pioneers swept #9 Hilbert to advance to the quarterfinals and were making their first appearance in school history in the AMCC Tournament. The blue & gold finish the 2021 season with a 7-21 overall record.
