Pioneers Record 18 hits in Keuka Split

The Alfred State softball team (5-11) recorded 18 hits in their two games against the Keuka College Wolves (1-9) on Wednesday in Keuka Park, N.Y.

The Pioneers lost game one but came back to win game two.

Game one: ASC 3, KC 4 (8 innings)

The Pioneers recorded 3 runs, 9 hits, 3 RBIs and 0 errors.

The Wolves recorded 4 run, 13 hits, 4 RBIs and 2 errors.

Pioneer Leaders:

Kaylee Griffith (Niagara Falls) went 2-for-4.

Lauryn Engle (Elba) went 1-for-3 with 2 RBIs.

Brittany Fisher (Indianapolis, IN/Southport) had 1 RBI.

How it Happened:

In the top of the second Fisher hit a double to left field to plate Engle.

Keuka scored one in the second, fourth and fifth for a 3-1 lead.

In the top of the sixth Engle tripled to right center to bring home Nicole Youngberg (Falconer) and Felecia Capito (Cuba, NY/Portville) to tie the game.

The Pioneers defense held off the wolves in the seventh to force extra innings, but Keuka scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth.

Pioneer Pitching:

Fisher (L, 3-6) pitched 8 innings and allowed 13 hits, 4 runs and struck out 1.

Game two: ASC 2, KC 1

The Pioneers recorded 2 runs, 9 hits, 2 RBIs and 1 error.

The Wolves recorded 1 runs, 5 hits, 1 RBI and 4 errors.

Pioneer Leaders:

Griffith went 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs.

Faith Capito (Cuba, NY/Portville) went 2-for-4.

How it Happened:

In the top of the fourth Griffith singled to right field to drive in Engle and Fisher.

The Wolves scored their lone run in the bottom of the sixth.

Pioneer Pitching:

Abby Beidel (Newville, PA/Big Spring) (W, 2-5) pitched 7 innings and allowed 5 hits, 1 run, walked 1 and struck out 3.

The Pioneers have their first home game of the season on Saturday, April 9 when they host La Roche in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
