Pitt.-Greensburg
The Alfred State Softball team lost their doubleheader today against Pitt-Greensburg. In game 1, the Pioneers lost 8-5 and 3-0 in game 2.
Game 1
After two quick innings for both teams, Pitt-Greensburg opened scoring with two runs in the third. They went on to score their third run in the fourth inning, but the Pioneers responded with four runs to take the lead. Audrey Farrell doubled to right center and brought Nicole Youngberg in for the first score, while Lauryn Engle quickly singled to center field to then bring Audrey Farrell in. Their third run came from Faith Capito singling to left field to bring Kailey Wonica home on a RBI. The final score in the inning came from Felicia Capito who singled while Faith Capito came in on an unearned run off a Bobcat error. Both teams held one another scoreless in the fifth, but Pitt-Greensburg was too much to handle in the sixth inning as they scored five runs to take the lead 8-4. The Pioneers would go on to score in the bottom off a Youngberg RBI that assisted Faith Capito a run. Alfred State was unable to respond in the final inning to comeback, leading to Pitt-Greensburg's 8-5 victory.
Abby Beidel threw 84 pitches on the day, adding 63 strikes and facing 38 batters.
Game 2
Both teams struggled to put runs on the board until the fifth inning where Martin was able to single to center field for 2 RBI, both Wertheime and Corvin scoring for Pitt-Greensburg. The Bobcats would go on to score one more run on the day in the top of the sixth off Stonbrake singling to left field, rounding Liccketto in for the final run. Both teams were scoreless in the seventh and final inning of the day. Alfred State struggled to get hits, but Fe. Capito had two for the Pioneers, with Fa. Capito and Engle each adding one. Farrell threw 104 pitches and 79 strikes for Alfred State.
The Pioneers are back in action Monday, April 17th against Keuka College in Alfred, NY.
