Pioneers Dominate Keuka

Keuka, NY - The Alfred State Softball dominated Keuka College in a non-conference double header this afternoon, winning game one 9-6 and game two 18-5.

In Game 1:

Breena Komarnisky continues to shine behind the pound as she pitched 6.1 innings and improves her win record to 6-11. Abigail Marinelli had an impressive outing as she was 2-4 at the plate and adding in two RBI. Olivia Kratts and Komarnisky also had two RBI while Madigan Harris went 2-3 at bat with one RBI. 

The Pioneers were the first on the board, scoring two quick runs in the second inning off a Kratts single to left centerfield which rounded in Harris and Lauryn Engle each for a score. Alfred State would go on to score three more runs over the next two innings to take a 5-0 lead into the fifth inning before the Wolves managed to put a run up in the bottom of the inning. Marinelli stunted any Keuka momentum in the top of the sixth after singling to right centerfield to plate Engle. The run was quickly followed up by three more Pioneer runs off errors made by the Wolves to give Alfred State a 9-2 run headed into the seventh inning. Keuka made an attempt to close the gap with four runs in the final inning, but Alfred State secured the 9-6 win.

 

In Game 2:

Hailee Smith got the start, pitching 5.0 innings and throwing three strikeouts. Abigail Marinelli and Lauryn Engle led the way for the Pioneers at the plate, with Marinelli going 2-4 with three RBI and Engle 2-3 with three RBI as well. Abby Beidel also had three RBI on the day while Caley Larsen and Olivia Kratts each had two. Eight of the 11 Pioneers that played had at least one run. 

Carrying the momentum felt in game one, Alfred State scored two quick runs to begin game two before Keuka answered with a run. However, the Pioneers scoring exploded in the second inning, scoring eight unanswered runs to take a 10-1 lead. Beidel doubled to left centerfield for an Adriana DuVal score and was soon followed up by Beidel scoring off a throwing error by Keuka. Engle then singled up the middle for two runs by McKinlee Harris and Kratts. To begin the third inning, Marinelli doubled to right field to plate Engle and then proceeded to score herself off a Beidel fly out to left field. The Wolves would respond with two runs in the bottom of the third, but the Pioneers showed no mercy as they went on to score five more runs in the top of the fourth. Keuka would score two more runs, but Alfred State would go on to run rule the Wolves to secure the 18-5 victory.
