Women’s Basketball Fall to Medaille

The Alfred State women's basketball team lost 59-45 to the Medaille College Mavericks on Wednesday evening inside Orvis Gymnasium.

The Pioneers move to 10-12 overall and 7-8 in the AMCC while the Mavericks improve to 11-13 overall and 6-9 in the conference.

Alfred State shot 34% in field goals, 40% in three-pointers, 58.3% in free throws and picked up 30 rebounds.

Medaille recorded 37.5% in field goals, 33.3% in three-pointers, 57.1% in free throws, had 41 rebounds and scored 22 points off the Pioneers 27 turnovers.

Maisy Booth (Canisteo Greenwood) led the team with 14 points and had seven rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Skylar Shaulis (Ovid/South Seneca) scored 12 points and Emily Kelley (Andover) added ten points, five rebounds and three assists. Janna Pena (Brooklyn/ACLA) picked up eight rebounds.

The game was tied twice and the lead changed 14 times. Alfred State led 12-11 after the first quarter but Medaille held the Pioneers to eight points in the second quarter and put up 21 points to lead 32-20 at halftime.

The Mavericks took a 15-point advantage after the third quarter and extended it to 21 with 4:30 left on the clock. The Pioneers were able to cut their lead to 14 by the end of the game.

The women head to Pitt.-Greensburg on Saturday, Feb. 19 for their last regular season game starting at 1 p.m.
