Pioneers Could Not Overcome Late Bobcat Rally

Alfred, NY – The Alfred State women's basketball dropped a hard-fought game to Pitt-Greensburg 74-71. The Pioneers fell to 2-8 on the season and 2-2 in conference play.

Three Pioneers scored in double figures with Taylor Benjamin leading the way as she scored 25 points while dishing out six assists. Both Sarah Somers and Jaiden Williams added 13 points each.

The Bobcats got out the gate fast outscoring the Pios 23-15 in the first quarter. The Pioneers answered in the second quarter. Benjamin opened the quarter with a steal and a three. A few possessions later, Benjamin knocked down another three to cut the lead down to 25-21. After cutting the lead down to one, 28-27, Anna Merry hit two free throws to give ASC their first lead of the game. Benjamin would then make three straight layups, before Jenna George hit a three as time expired in the first half. The Pioneers led 38-35 going into the break.

The Bobcats were able to regain the lead in the third to take a 55-49 lead into the fourth. The Pios would open the fourth with an 11-4 to take a 60-56 lead. Following two Bobcat free throws Williams would knock down a three for the 63-59 lead. From there, Pitt-Greensburg went on a late run to regain the lead and got the win.
