Pioneers Fall After Lions Late Rally

Alfred, NY - The Alfred State Women's Basketball team dropped a close battle to Penn State Behrend 90-78. Four Pioneers scored in double figures as they fell to 3-13 on the season and 2-7 in AMCC play.

 

Taylor Benjamin led the way for the Pioneers scoring 26 points while grabbing 12 rebounds. Sarah Somers and Jaiden Williams added 13 points each and Jenna George came away with 11 points. While Josie Barton added some timely three pointers in the 3rd quarter.

 

The Lions got off to a fast start and held a 31-20 lead at the end of the first quarter. Late in the second quarter a layup by Somers capped off a 13-2 run by the Pioneers and cut the lead to 44-38 at halftime.

 

The Pioneers scored 30 points in the third quarter as both teams traded baskets. A Williams layup late in the quarter gave the Pioneers their first lead of the game 65-63. The Pioneers had the lead 68-66 at the end of the third quarter.

 

The Lions went on a small run to start the fourth quarter but a three pointer by Benjamin with a little under five minutes remaining cut the deficit to three points. Penn State Behrend went on a 10-1 run after that to close out the game.
