Pioneers Could Not Overcome 2nd Quarter Surge

Alfred, NY- The Alfred State women's basketball team dropped a hard-fought matchup against Hilbert 59-51. The Pioneers fall to 3-15 on the year and 2-9 in conference play.

Anna Merry led the way with 12 points as she shot 4-6 from behind the arch. Taylor Searle added 11 points and six rebounds, and Sarah Somers tallied nine points and six rebounds.

Searle got the game started for the Pioneers with a layup. A few possessions later, after a Taylor Benjamin free throw, Jaiden Williams hit an and-1 jumper and free throw to give the Pios a 6-4 lead. Williams and Josie Barton hit threes to give ASC the 12-9 lead heading into the second quarter.

The Hawks answered with a 20-10 quarter to take a 29-22 lead into the half.

The Pioneers fought back into the game, then Anna Merry hit back-to-back threes to give Alfred the 39-37 lead.  The Hawks hit a three to regain a 40-39.

Searle opened the fourth with a layup, Jenna George followed with a layup of her own to tie the game at 43-43. After a Hilbert bucket, Searle would get a backdoor layup to tie the game at 45-45. From there the Hawks would go on a 7-0 run to take a 52-45 lead with 1:35 left in the game. The Hawks held the Pioneers attack off to get the win.
