Volleyball Picked 8th in AMCC Preseason Poll

The Alfred State volleyball team has been picked to finish 8th in the AMCC preseason coaches poll. The Pioneers will be taking the court next week for the first time in over 600 days.

When the Pioneers last took the court in 2019, the team finished 10-14 overall and 3-7 in AMCC play. The team features several familiar faces mixed in with two groups of newcomers. Senior Kiara Perkins (Coudersport, PA) is back to lead the way after recording 237 kills and 268 digs in 24 matches. Megan Gridley (Caton/Corning Painted Post), Alyssa Martin (Portville), and Faith McCombs (Amityville/Copiague) are return from the 2019 squad. Four second-year newcomers and four first year students have joined the squad as well.

Penn State Behrend is predicted to win the AMCC followed by Pitt Bradford, Penn State Altoona, Mt. Aloysius, La Roche, Medaille, and Pitt-Greensburg. Alfred State is predicted 8th followed by Hilbert.

The Pioneers open up the season on September 1st when they host Wells. They take non-conference opponents like Cazenovia, Houghton, Penn College, Lycoming, and Nazareth while playing a full conference schedule. The AMCC schedule starts on starts on September 25th when they host Penn State Altoona. The AMCC regular season ends on October 30th and the AMCC Tournament will crown a champion on November 7th. The winner of the AMCC Tournament will receive the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Kristin Reiland of Penn State Behrend has been named the AMCC Preseason Player of the Year.
