Ten Straight - Pioneers Sweep Mounties Twice

The Alfred State volleyball team improved their winning streak to ten games with a pair of sweeps at Mt. Aloysius on Saturday. They won 25-23, 25-15, 25-12 in the AMCC contest and 25-16, 25-17, 25-23 in a non-conference match. The blue & gold are now 14-1 overall and 4-0 in AMCC play.

The Pioneers hit .380 in the AMCC match-up. Kiara Perkins (Coudersport, PA) led the way with 16 kills and eight digs while Keturah Gregory (Laurel, MD) hit .811 in the contest and finished with nine kills. Raquel Gerstenberger (Schoharie) chipped in eight kills and seven digs, Nayomie Ferrer (Eastridge) passed out 44 assists and had three service aces, and Emma Petrichick (Genesee Valley) led the way with 11 digs.

13 service aces helped Alfred State in the second match of the day. Gerstenberger collected five aces along with eight kills and nine digs. Gregory finished with eight kills, Ferrer passed out 27 assists, and Perkins had six kills, seven digs, and four aces. Petrichick finished with 14 dig, Alyssa Martin (Portville) had eight kills, and Faith McCombs (Amityville/Copiague) chipped in seven kills.

The Pioneers are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Erie, PA to take on Penn State Behrend. The Pioneers (4-0) and Lions (5-0) are both undefeated in AMCC play. Opening serve is at 7 p.m.
