Pioneers Sweep Bradford - Earn #2 Seed for AMCC Tournament

The Alfred State volleyball team earned a 25-22, 25-19, 25-22 victory over Pitt-Bradord. The win seals the #2 seed for the Pioneers in next week's AMCC Tournament.

The Pioneers jumped out to a 7-1 early lead in the opening set but the Lions bounced back and took a 11-10 lead. With the match tied at 17-17, Alfred State scored the next four points and took the first set. The first set fetured three ties and two lead changes.

The second set featured 11 ties and four lead changes. With the set tied at 18-18, Alfred State rattled off five straight points highlighted by kills by Keturah Gregory (Laruel, MD) and Faith McCombs (Copiague). A block by Gregory gave the Pioneers the set.

In the final set that featured six ties and two lead changes, ASC and UPB were tied at 8-8 before the Pioneers went on a run and grabbed a 19-11. The Panthers didn't go away and scored the next six points to make it 19-17 but Alfred State bounced back to score the four points and withstood another rally to seal the victory on a Karleigh Haines (Jamestown) kill.

Gregory had a monster day in the middle. She finished with 12 kills and three blocks. Kiara Perkins (Coudersport, PA) finished with seven kills, six digs, and two service aces while Nayomie Ferrer (Eastridge) passed out 29 assists and had nine digs. Emma Petrichick (Genesee Valley) played solid defense with a team hig 15 digs. 

Emily Cleveland led UPB (17-7, 5-3 AMCC) with 13 kills while Tabitha Walker passed out 20 assists, and Kayla Maslowski tallied 10 digs.

The Pioneers finish the regular season with a 17-2 overall mark. The team was 10-0 in matches played at the Orvis Activities Center.

Alfred State will head to #1 seed Penn State Behrend next Saturday to play in the AMCC Semifinals. They will play the winner of the #3 Penn State Altoona vs. #6 Mt. Aloysius 1st round contest at 4:30 p.m. The winners of the two semifinal matches will play in the AMCC final on Sunday (11/7).
