Fast Five: Alfred State Ready for AMCC Final Four

The Alfred State volleyball team looks to continue their incredible 2021 season this weekend at the AMCC Final Four. The Final Four will be played at #1 seed Penn State Behrend (Erie, PA).

• The Final Four
  
  • Penn State Behrend is the #1 seed and hosts. They finished the AMCC regular season 8-0 and are 20-5 overall on the year.
  • Alfred State is the #2 seed after a 17-2 regular season. The Pioneers were 7-1 in AMCC with their lone loss coming to Behrend.
  • Penn State Altoonas is the #3 seed. They were 6-2 (losses to Behrend and Alfred) in AMCC play and 16-4 overall.
  • Pitt Bradford is the #4 seed. They finished 5-3 in AMCC play and are 18-7 overall.
    • Altoona swept #6 Mt. Aloysius in the quarterfinals while Bradford defeated #5 La Roche 3-1 in the other quarterfinal.

  • The Pioneers have gotten contributions from their whole squad as they have moved through the 2021 season.
    • Kiara Perkins leads the team with 156 total kills, 142 digs, and 52 service aces. Her .90 service aces/set is #6 in the country.
    • In her first year Nayomie Ferrer has made an immediate impact. She has passed out 499 assists on the year (9.42/set) and has 53 kills and 45 service aces.
    • Keturah Gregory has come on in the last few weeks of the season. The middle hitter has 129 kills on the season (2.15/set). Her hitting percentage of .507 is tops in the nation.
  • Alfred State is the top serving teams in Division III of the NCAA. They lead the country with 3.75 aces per set. 
  • This is the first time since Alfred State has played in the AMCC, 2019 and 2021, that the Pioneers have made the AMCC Tournament. The 2019 team finished 10-14 overall and 3-7 in AMCC play.
  • In the preseason AMCC coaches poll, ASC was predicted to finish 8th.

  • Alfred State defeated Penn State Altoona 25-19, 25-16, 25-21 in the first AMCC match of the season for both teams. Alyssa Martin led the team with nine kills and four aces, Kiara Perkins had eight kills, and Keturah Gregory finished with eight kills (.583 hitting percentage). Nayomie Ferrer (Eastridge) passed out 28 assists, had six digs, and three kills while Emma Petrichick (Belmont/Genesee Valley) led the team with eight digs. Lacee Barnhart led Altoona with 10 kills and eight digs.
  • The Pioneers are 10-1 since that match-up while the Lions are 11-2.

• What's Next: The winner of the two semifinals meet on Sunday, November 7th at 1 p.m. to determine the AMCC Champion. The AMCC Champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA DIII Tournament. Pairings for the NCAA DIII Tournament are announced on Monday.
