Fast Five: Alfred State Ready to Host ECAC Championships

The Alfred State volleyball team continues postseason play this weekend by hosting the ECAC Championships. The Pioneers welcome Kean, Hunter and Rutgers Camden to campus for the tournament that will run Friday and Saturday.

  • The Participants
    • #1 Kean University (16-12) - The Cougars are members of the NJAC and advanced to the NJAC semifinals
      • Kayla Thornton was named 1st team All-NJAC while Anne Beckemeyer was a 2nd team selection
    • #2 Hunter College (13-13) - The Hawks are members of the CUNYAC and advanced to the CUNYAC finals
      • Mariam Ouattara was named 1st team All-CUNYAC while Alexa Sayson was a 2nd team selection.
    • #3 Rutgers Camden (20-9) - The Scarlet Raptors are members of the NJCAC and played in the NJAC Tournament
      • Kaliya Moss was named the NJAC Rookie of the Year and 1st team All NJAC while Morgan Fox was named 2nd team
    • #4 Alfred State (18-3) - The Pioneers are members of the AMCC and played in the AMCC finals.
  • Scouting Alfred State
    • Seniors Kiara Perkins, Alyssa Martin, and Megan Gridley will conclude their playing career with the opportunity for more action at the Orvis Activities Center. Home has been good for the Pioneers this season as the blue & gold are 10-0 this year in Alfred.
      • Perkins leads the team is ranked 7th in the NCAA DIII leaderboard with 0.84 aces per set. She has recorded three double-doubles on the season and leads the team with 174 kills, 163 digs, and 54 service aces. 
      • Martin has accumulated 103 kills (1.69/set) and has 44 digs and 31 blocks on the season.
      • Gridley has recently returned to the court and has seen action in 13 matches this season. She is averaging 2.13 digs per set.
    • Newcomers to the 2021 squad, Keturah Gregory and Nayomie Ferrer have been difference makers.
      • Gregory has a .482 hitting percentage on the year. She is averaging 2.17 kills per set and leads the team with 51 total blocks.
      • Ferrer is averaging 9.47 assists, 2.61 digs, and 0.81 aces per set.
  • Previous Match-ups
    • Kean is 3-0 vs. the field. They defeated Hunter 3-0 on October 2 and defeated Rutgers Camden two, 3-1 on October 19 and 3-0 on November 2.
    • Alfred State has not played anyone in the field.
    • This is Alfred State's third time playing in the ECAC Championships and the second time the program has hosted the final four.
