Pioneers Notches First Sweep Of The Season Over SUNY Delhi

Oneonta, NY- The Pioneers notched their first sweep of the season, as they took down SUNY Delhi 3-0 (25-20, 25-13, 25-15). ASC is now 4-4 on the season.

Racquel Gerstenberger led the way on offense with 11 kills, while also adding eight digs and five aces. Alayna Tomlinson added eight kills, and Erin Gregoire tallied seven kills. Nayomie Ferrer Santiago came away with 25 assists, nine digs, six kills, and six aces.

Alfred opened the first set with a 5-1 run. Ferrer notched an ace for the first point of the match. Gerstenberger put in a kill and an ace, while Tomlinson added a kill. Later in the set, the Pioneers would go on another 5-1 run to take a 21-13 lead. Four different Pioneers tallied a kill on that run. From there Gregoire and Gerstenberger notched kills and ASC took set one on an error.

A-State started set two on a 6-1 run, that included two aces from Ferrer, two kills from Gerstenberger and a kill from Tomlinson. A few plays later, the Pioneers went on a 12-1 run for control of the set and the 24-12 lead. After a Delhi point Summer Mattison got a kill to take set two.

The Pioneers carried the momentum into set three as they started on a 10-2 run. A few plays later, the Broncos made four straight errors, before Riley Wulff notched an ace. Following the ace, Caitlyn Gilman and Ferrer notched kills for match point. Then Gregoire ended the set and the match with a kill.

The Pioneers will take the week off before heading to Houghton on Saturday Sept. 23^rd for a doubleheader against Fredonia and Houghton.
