Pioneers Notched Two Sweeps On Senior Night

Alfred, NY- Pioneers notched two sweeps on the day against Pitt. Greensburg. In the first match, ASC won 3-0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-23), then in the second match Alfred State won 3-0 (25-20, 25-14, 25-15).

In the first match, Racquel Gerstenberger notched a double-double with 10 kills and 13 digs. Erin Gregoire also had a good game with nine kills. Nayomie Ferrer Santiago tallied 27 assists and nine digs, as Alayna Tomlinson had seven kills and nine assists.

In the first set, ASC jumped out to a 6-2 lead and never looked back. The Pioneers would go on multiple 3-0 and 4-0 runs before kills by Gregoire and Gerstenberger ended the set 25-14.

The Pioneers carried their momentum into set two starting with a 7-1 run. UPG closed the gap to 13-10 before ASC got back-to-back kills from Caitlyn Gilman and Gabriella Thurmond to force a Bobcats timeout. Following the timeout, Gilman notched another kill followed by a Gerstenberger ace for an 18-11 lead. After some back-and-forth action, an error from the Bobcats gave the Pioneers set point and Adeline Milligan ended the set with an ace. Set three was tightly contested with the Pioneers scoring the last two points from an error and a Gregoire kill to win the set and match.

In match number two, Ferrer led the way with a double-double. She tallied 21 assists, 11 digs, and six aces. Gerstenberger came away with nine kills, and Tomlinson added six kills and four aces.

The Pioneers started a little slow but got it going late to win the first set. Alfred State got hot early in the second set as the Pioneers opened with a 15-5 run. From there, ASC kept the momentum and carried it through the rest of the match for the win.
