Three Double-Doubles Was Not Enough As Pioneers Fall In Conference Finals

Altoona, PA- The Alfred State Volleyball season comes to an end in the AMCC Finals. The Pioneers fell to Penn State Altoona 3-1 (25-23, 17-25, 22-25, 18-25).

Three Pioneers tallied double doubles with Racquel Gerstenberger leading the way with 19 kills and 22 digs. Next was freshman, Alayna Tomlinson who put in 10 kills and 17 digs, while Nayomie Ferrer Santiago tallied 45 assists and 25 digs. Adeline Milligan also notched double digit dig numbers with 23 digs.

ASC got off to a good start in the first set, Gerstenberger notched back-to-back kills followed by three straight Altoona errors for the 5-2 lead. A few plays later, the Pioneers went on a 6-2 run to take a commanding 15-7 lead. That run featured kills from Tomlinson, Gerstenberger, and Erin Gregoire, along with two Altoona errors. PSA then made a run to take the 21-20 lead, before Tomlinson ended the run with a kill. Then Gregoire and Gerstenberger notched back-to-back kills for the 23-21 lead. After an Altoona point, Gerstenberger put in two more kills for the 25-23 set win.

Penn State Altoona rebounded to take set two and they carried that momentum into the third and fourth set to win the match.
