Jason Doviak is in his seventh year leading the Pioneer Athletic Department after being hired in April 2017. In his short time at Alfred State, Doviak has led the Pioneers to new heights. The Pioneers completed the NCAA Provisional Process and became official members of NCAA Division III in September of 2018. Alfred State joined the Allegany Mountain Collegiate Conference as its primary sports conference in July of 2019. Affiliate memberships were secured within the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) for Track & Field and Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference (ECWC). Every program now has an opportunity to compete for a conference championship for the first time in the NCAA era.

Doviak has led the way on facility renovations and improvements. Since his arrival, the Shay Family Hall of Fame room was created, the Pioneer Stadium locker room project was completed, a new track surface was installed, the Orvis gymnasium floor was refinished, new sound systems were installed for baseball and softball, and a state-of-the-art videoboard was added to Pioneer Stadium, the strength room renovation was completed, and a new outdoor batting cage for both softball and baseball. Projects scheduled for completion in the near future include upgrading the Pioneer Stadium turf, adding LED lighting for Pioneer Stadium, and renovations to the Track & Field throws area.

Doviak was influential in the rebranding process for the Athletic Department. A new logo was developed in 2018 and was incorporated into all of the athletic facilities, team apparel, and the website. The new brand has created a vibrant regional identity and increased college recognition.

Programs have already enjoyed some success on the national stage as the cross country teams competed in the Mideast Regional the last three years, the first All-American in the NCAA era was recognized in track & field, the football program tied for the conference championship in 2022 and secured a berth in the New England Bowl, Men’s Swimming & Diving won the AMCC/Empire 8 Overall Championship, and multiple teams have qualified and won playoff contests in the AMCC postseason tournament including volleyball, men’s soccer, and women’s basketball, while wrestling placed two individuals in the NCAA Regional for the first time in college history. The Women’s Swimming & Diving Team secured the first AMCC Championship in college history in 2020.  During the final year of membership in the American Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA), the Pioneers were awarded the overall President’s Cup as well as the Women’s President’s Cup Champion. Two student-athletes were selected as recipients for the prestigious SUNY Chancellor’s Scholar-Athlete Award in 2019.  In 2022, the Pioneers finished 3rd in the AMCC President’s Cup.

Doviak came to Alfred State after spending 12 years at Salem State University, a NCAA Division III Member in MA, as the Senior Associate Director of Athletics & Recreation.
