The Alfred State Archery team recently took second place in the men's bowhunter division in the 2018 USA Archery East Region Outdoor Collegiate Championships hosted at the Pennsylvania College of Technology in Williamsport, PA.

Approximately 15 colleges and universities had archers representing their institutions, including Penn Tech, James Madison University, the University of Connecticut, Atlantic Cape Community College, Lock Haven University, Columbia University, University of Pittsburgh, Penn State, and Brandeis, among others. Many of the colleges and universities have both men's and women's teams, and compete in both compound and recurve classifications.

The three-member Alfred State men's bowhunter team consisted of Austin Zauner (construction management, Darien Center), Joshua Harp (surveying and geomatics engineering technology, Farmington), and Jacob Pollock (mechanical engineering technology, Franklinville).

The members competed individually, with Pollock finishing fourth, Harp coming in sixth, and Zauner finishing eighth in the men's bowhunter division. The strong individual performances resulted in Alfred State being seeded second in Sunday's team rounds, where they beat James Madison's hunter team to advance to a final match, where they lost a close contest against Penn Tech.

The Alfred State Archery team now shifts to the outdoor 3-D season beginning the first week of May.
