Five Pioneer HR's not enough to get by Maine-Farmington

Five Pioneer HR's not enough to get by Maine-Farmington

The Alfred State bats were alive as they opened up play on their spring break trip to Florida but the Pioneers were unable to pick up a victory, falling 14-8 and 9-8 to Maine Farmington. The Beavers move to 3-0 and the Pioneers fall to 0-4.

Game one looked promising as the Pioneers jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first. Three RBI's came off the bat of Nicholas Padley (Sweet Home) as he homered to RF. The Beavers came back with 6 runs of their own in the bottom half of the first.

The Pioneers weren't able to regain the lead in game one. Farmington tacked on a single run in the 2nd, three in the 3rd, one in the 4th, and three in the 6th. The Beavers were lead by Grayson Beressi as he tallied five RBI's.

After the quick start by the Pioneers, they were held scoreless until the 5th inning when they plated three runs and then one more run in the 6th to round out the scoring. Padley went 3 for 3 at the plate with a total of four RBI and two HR. Chris Borden (Scotia-Glenville) also homered in the contest.

The Pioneer bats continued their home run surge in the second game as they put two more over the fence. Jordan Wheaton (Wayland) joined the HR club in the 1st inning with a two-run home run. Cullen Franz (Cazenovia) chipped in a pinch hit home run in the bottom of the 6th inning to tie the game at 8-8.

The Beavers pushed the game winning run across in the top of the 7th. The Pioneers had the tying run on base when the final out was recorded.

The Pioneers ended with 17 hits and 5 HR's for the day.

The blue and gold will be back in action tomorrow at 9:15 a.m. against Medaille.
