Division 3 Week Q&A with Connor Hong
As a part of the 2022 Division III Week from April 4-10, Alfred State Athletics will be unveiling a Q&A to highlight some Pioneers who embody the ideals of a Division III student-athlete.
- Why did you choose Alfred State?
I chose Alfred State as a last second choice. I was already enrolled to go to Monroe Community College in my hometown until Coach Armstrong called me three weeks before my first semester here in 2017. I visited the following week and loved the area and didn't want to miss the opportunity to play college baseball.
- How does being a D3 student-athlete better prepare you in life?
It doesn't only allow me to respond to adversity, but it has helped me create a better life through better habits. Every area; training, relationships, consumption habits, sleep habits, etc. has gotten better since the day I got here.
- What will you (or do you) miss the most about Alfred State/ your team?
I'm going to miss having the best friends and connections I've ever made being within five minutes of me. Also, the vibes of being in a small college town is something most people will never experience. It's the most unique and comforting type of area to live in through our growth years.
- What life lessons have you learned from being a D3 collegiate athlete?
I can only worry about what I can control. So many outside factors influence the sequence of events in life and all I can do is prepare my mind and body to put myself in the best position to handle each thing. As long as I put all my effort into the things I can control, I can never really lose.
- What is your favorite memory so far at Alfred State.
Every day.
- What advice would you give incoming freshmen?
Just let things unfold, don't force anything, and jump on opportunities that can change you even if it's uncomfortable.
