First Quarter Struggles Hinders Pioneers Day

Cresson, PA- Alfred State women's basketball strong second half was not enough to takedown Mt. Aloysius as they fall 75-54. The Pioneers drop to 5-18 on the season and 4-12 in conference play.

Taylor Benjamin had an all-around game as she tallied 11 points, nine rebounds, and three steals. Sarah Somers had a team high 12 points, while adding five rebounds, four assists, and three steals.

The Pioneers got off to a slow start, and the Mounties took advantage taking a 19-7 lead into the second quarter.

Benjamin got the offence started in the second with a layup and a three. A few possessions later after a Pioneer timeout, Somers added a layup and Jaiden Williams followed with a three. In the next few possessions, Jenna George hit a jumper and after getting a stop on defense Jessica Harris knocked down a three.

Then Mounties was able to take a 40-24 lead into the halftime break, and was able to add seven more points to their lead in headed into the fourth quarter and held the Pioneers off to get the win.
