Volleyball Wins Opening Home Match

The Alfred State Women's Volleyball team competed against Houghton University this evening in the Orvis Activities Center. The Pioneers defeated the Higlanders 3-1.

Starting the evening strong, the Pioneers won first set 25-15. After a tough battle in the second, and fighting their way back from being down 20-9, Alfred State dropped the second set 25-22. However, in a tight back and forth for the third set, the Pioneers won 25-22 and forced a fourth set. Alfred State was able to close the evening with a 25-20 win in the fourth set, completing the win.

Racquel Gerstenberger (Schoharie, NY) had 13 kills and 10 digs on the evening, while Karleigh Haines (Jamestown, NY) was able to add 10 kills leading the Pioneer attack.

There were five Pioneers with double-digit digs on the evening with Alexa Perez (Buffalo, NY) and Karleigh Haines (Jamestown, NY) leading the way with 13 each. Adeline Milligan (Pavilion, NY) had 12 digs while Nayomie Ferrer Santiago (San Juan, PR) had 11. Alexa Perez (Buffalo, NY) also contributed with 35 assists, one shy of her season-high.

The team is back in action on Friday against Morrisville State. The match will be played at Hartwick College set for a 6:00pm start.
