Men 1st, Women 2nd at FLCC Invite

The Alfred State cross country teams has a strong showing at the Finger Lakes CC Bruce Bridgeman Invitational.  The men won the event six points and the women finished 2nd just one point behind the overall winner.

The men's team, ranked #8 in the latest NJCAA DIII poll, scored a 41 to place ahead of Mohawk Valley CC's 47.  Lorain (OH) CC was 3rd with 77, Broome CC 4th (99), and Finger Lakes CC 5th (101).  Herkimer was incomplete.

Jedediah Platt (Appleton/Barker) led the Pioneers with a 4th place finish.  He ran the tough 8k course in 29:25.  Casey Hopkins (Boston/Hamburg) was 7th in 30:32, Jordan Rusek (Buffalo/Williamsville East) was 8th in 30:39, and Logan Phillips (Angelica/Genesee Valley) was 10th in 31:11.

The women's team, ranked #5 in the latest NJCAA DIII poll, scored a 38 and was one point behind event winner Mohawk Valley.  Lorain was 3rd (78) and Herkimer was 4th (79).  Broome and FLCC were incomplete.

Katy Monahan (Warsaw) was the top Alfred finisher crossing the line of the 5k course in 22:16 for a 4th place finish.  Claire Holleran (Penfield) was 8th in 22:41, Kim Lupo (Auburn) was 8th (22:54), Megan Dillon (Angola/Lake Shore) was 9th (22:55), and Elizabeth Brown (Randolph) was 10th (22:57).

The Pioneers head to Houghton College next weekend for the Highlander Invitational.  Racing is slated to start at Noon.
