Men's Soccer Opens up With Victory

The Alfred State men's soccer team scored three 1st half goals and opened up their season with a 3-2 victory over St. Vincent on day one of the Frostburg (MD) Tournament. 

Zack Kocak gave St. Vincent a 1-0 lead 9:19 into the game after getting a pass from Nick Gaudy. Tyler Landries (Genesee Valley) answered right back just five seconds later when he blasted a shot from behind midfield into the back of the net. Albert Senyah Breezy (Central Islip) was credited with the assist.

John Mormino (Alfred Almond) gave the Pioneers their first lead when he scored at the 18:21 mark of the half assisted by Senyah Breezy. Bryan Whitbeck (Akron) scored 39 seconds later after getting a pass from Nick Donner (Lancaster).

Scott Luthy cut the lead to 3-2 just under five minutes into the 2nd half but the Bearcats were unable to get the equalizer. St. Vincent outshot Alfred State 8-1 in the 2nd.

Jacob Bartz (West Seneca East) made four saves in net to earn the victory. The Pioneers were outshot 16 to 6 in the contest but five of their six shots were on net.

The Pioneers are right back in action on Saturday when they battle Catholic University. Catholic defeated Frostburg 1-0 in the other contest on Friday.
