Catholic Shuts Out Pioneers

Catholic University shut out Alfred State 3-0 on day two of the Frostburg (MD) Tournament. The Pioneers are 1-1 on the young season while the Cardinals are 2-0.

Catholic scored just 4:22 into the game when Joseph Nguyen found the back of the net. Jake Nabbie made it 2-0 with just over five minutes left in the 1st half when he scored off a rebound. Nick Krake added an insurance goal with under three minutes remaining in the game.

Catholic outshot the Pioneers 26-7. Steven Lukas made two saves to record the shutout while Christopher Johannesson (Long Beach) nine saves in net for the Pioneers in his first career action.

Cooper Weinman (Genesee Valley), Markus Ernest (Alfred Almond), and Tyler Landries (Genesee Valley) were named to the all-tournament team.

The Pioneers hit the road again next weekend for a pair of games starting with a 4 p.m. contest at Bethany (WV) next Saturday (9/10).
