Alfred State and DuBois Battle in Tight Contest
In a back and forth match, Penn State DuBois held on for a 28-27 victory over Alfred State on Wednesday night. The Nittany Lions won two of the final three matches to secure the victory.
Michael Boyle (Cooperstown) earned a forfeit win at 125 lbs. to open the night. Ryan Thierman (Portville) made it 12-0 Alfred State with a pin of Brett Himes at 133. DuBois then won the next four matches to grab a 19-12 lead.
George VanValen (Ithaca) pinned John Prentice at 174 lbs. in 3:26 and Nathan Sisler (Ballston Spa) followed with a pin of Deontay Wadley (3:38) at 184 to give the Pioneers back the lead 24-19 heading into the final three matches of the evening.
The Nittany Lions earned a pin at 197 and a decision victory at 235 to grab a 28-24 lead. Riley Andrews (York) delivered a 2-0 victory in the heavyweight match but the Pioneers fell one point short of the tie.
The Pioneers will head to RIT on Saturday to compete in the Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference Championships. Wrestling is slated to begin at 10 a.m.
