The Pioneer Won The Series Against Ferrum 2-1

Ferrum, VA- The Alfred State baseball team could not complete the sweep after dropping game three 20-11 against the Ferrum. The Pioneers won the series 2-1.

Ryan Kinney got the start and pitched 3.0 innings, only allowing five hits, three earned runs, and two strikeouts. The Pioneers would throw five other arms, with Spencer Riehler getting credited with the loss.

Jack Curabba had a good day at the plate going 3-5 with three RBIs. Tyler Korsky went 2-3 with two doubles and an RBI. Devin Mersmann also had a good day going 3-4 with two stolen bases.

In the top of the first, Elijah Barinas got walked with one out, then advanced to third on a Curabba single. Bobby Sellers then got an RBI on a ground out to take a 1-0 lead. Caleb Walker followed with an RB double for the 2-0 lead.

After Ferrum cut the lead down in half, the Pios added three runs in the second. Korsky led off with a double in the center field gap. Three batters later, Tyler Petery notched an RBI single through the right side. Then after a Barinas double put two runners in scoring position, Curabba notched a two RBI single for the 5-1 lead.

ASC scored a run in the fourth, before Ferrum scored six in the bottom of the fourth and four in the bottom of the fifth to take a 11-7 lead.

The Pioneers answered with two runs in the seventh to cut the lead down to 12-9, but Ferrum answered with three runs in the bottom of the seventh and five runs in the bottom of the eighth to take a 20-9 lead.

The Pioneers was able to score two runs in the top ninth but could not get any closer.
