Builders Run by Pioneers

The Apprentice School rushed for 381 yards as they defeated Alfred State 44-13 on Saturday. Three Builders rushed for over 100 yards in the contest.

Ben Wilkerson (Buffalo/Fayette Ware) gave the Pioneers an early lead when he scampered in from 19-yards out. The Pioneers scoring drive started after a bad snap on an Apprentice punt.

The Builders rushing attack took charge after that. Brenden O'Neal scored a minute and a half later when he rushed in from 60-yards out. Apprentice took the lead three minutes later when Ethan Bryce dove in from one-yard out.

O'Neil's second TD run with 3:50 left in the 2nd quarter made it 20-7 at the half.

Brandon Jones dove in from three yards out 1:35 into the 2nd half as the Builders capitalized on a Pioneer turnover. Austin Wall hit a 20-yard field goal in the closing minute of the 3rd quarter to make it 31-7.

Jones scored for the second time with 8:27 left in the contest to cap a 10-play drive. Romiio Littlejohn (Brooklyn/Grand Street Campus) answered right back when he took the ensuing kickoff 82 yards for a score. Bryce capped the scoring with 3:22 remaining with a 19-yard run.

Jones finished the day with 135 yards on 24 carries, O'Neil had 131 yards on 16 carries, and Bryce collectged with 120 yards on 30 carries. All three scored twice.

Tyson Tillar led the Builders defense with six tackles while Michael Scott had five tackles and a sack. Apprentice held the Pioneers offense to just 34 yards on the day.

John Garbowski (Mohegan Lake/Lakeland) led the Pioneer defense with 14 tackles while Jake Dollard (Attica) and Kenneth Nelson (Oakland, CA) had 12 each. Akil Brown (Brooklyn/Stevenson) chipped in 10 tackles.

Apprentice rushed on 75 of their 80 plays. They held the ball for over 40 minutes and 22:50 of the 2nd half.

The blue & gold return to action on Friday when they travel to St. John Fisher for a 7 p.m. contest.
