Football Falls at Castleton

The Pioneer Football team lost today's game 37-13 at Castleton.

The first quarter ended in a 7-7 tie, as the Pioneers answered an opening drive running touchdown by Castleton. Jake Palmer (Albany, NY) finished a 65 yard drive with a 2-yard touchdown run. Castleton scored a touchdown in the beginning of the second quarter, ending the scoring for the half.

Going into halftime down a touchdown, Alfred State stopped Castleton in the opening drive but conceded a touchdown in the 7 minute mark of the third.

The final Pioneer touchdown was scored on a patented Roman Napoleon (Allegany, NY) long reception. A 69 yard catch and throw to bring Alfred State within two possessions with 5 minutes left in the 4th quarter. Castleton finished their day with two late touchdowns, their last coming on a 33-yard touchdown run.

Justin Horvath (Grand Island, NY) threw for 233 yards and a touchdown, and Roman Napoleon led the Pioneer receiving core with 6 catches for 175 yards.

Silas Egenlauf (Spencerport, NY) was a force on defense today for Alfred State, notching 16 total tackles. Ten of his tackles were solo, the only Pioneer in double digits. Anthony Allen (Staten Island, NY) recorded an interception, his first of the season.

The Pioneers play next at home, they square off against Gallaudet on November 5, in the season's final home game.
