Pioneers Come Up Just Short on the Road

The Alfred State Softball team dropped a close game today in a non-conference matchup against Houghton University. The Pioneers lost 7-5 in seven innings and are 7-14 and 2-6 on the season.

Audrey Farrell continues to lead the Pioneers, hitting 2-3 with three RBI on the day. McKinlee Harris was also 2-3 and chipped in two RBI.

Houghton got off to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first from a Nelson homer, but the Pioneers responded immediately in the top of the second. Farrell got the scoring started off a sacrifice fly that plated Madigan Harris for the score. McKinlee Harris then singled to right field to round Olivia Kratts and Abigail Marinelli each for a run. Both teams remained scoreless in the third, but a Farrell double in the fourth would bring Kratts in for another score, making it 4-1. However, the Highlanders responded in the bottom of the inning to make it a 4-3 lead. After three quick outs in the fifth inning for Alfred State, the Highlanders took the lead with three runs headed into the sixth. Farrell tried to gain the Pioneer momentum back when she singled Madigan Harris home, but the Highlanders would go on to score one more run before closing the game in the seventh.
