Pioneers Bounce Past Roos, Boyd Records 400th Victory

The Alfred State women's basketball team started fast and never looked back as they defeated SUNY Canton 76-46 on Friday night. The victory was the 400th for Lady Pioneer Head Coach Gina Boyd.

Alfred State jumped out to a 22-9 after the 1st quarter and led 47-23 at the break. They continued the pressure and led by as many as 31 in the 4th quarter. 

Joselyn Johnson (Geneva) had a career night leading the Lady Pioneers with 22 points. She was 11 for 16 from the field and grabbed six boards. Catherine Bialecki (Alfred Amond) finished with 17 points, Kimberly Levee (Dansville) added 13 (hit 3 three-pointers), and Kelly Kane (Wellsville) had 10.

The Pioneers shot a blazing 64.7% in the 2nd quarter and finished the game shooting 45.8% for the game. The team was 33 for 72 from the field, 3 of 13 from three, and hit 7 of their 17 foul shots. The team also forced the Roos into 30 turnovers.

Jenifer Morgan Aubin led Canton with 15 points and 15 rebounds off the bench. Tylar Barbato chipped in 13 and Randi Conway had 10 points and eight rebounds. The Roos shot 28.3% from the field, 27.3% from three, and 62.5% from the foul line.

Boyd who is in her 27th season lead the Lady Pioneer program is now 400-285.

The blue & gold are back at in tomorrow afternoon when they host SUNY Delhi in their final home game of the 2016-17 season. Opening tip is at 2 p.m.
