Pioneers Fall in Florida Opener

The Alfred State baseball team was swept by Beloit (WI) as they opened up play in their spring trip to Florida.  The Bucs (6-2) earned 12-5 and 3-1 victories in their final games of their trip.

In the opener, Beloit scored six runs in the 2nd inning to put the game out of reach.  Danny Corral led the Bucs with a 3 for 4, 4 RBI day.  Beloit took advantage of 11 Pioneer walks.

Matthew Nawrot (Clarence) was the lone Pioneer with multiple hits finishing 2 for 3.  Anthony Gonzalez (Florida/SS Seward) was 1 for 4 with a RBI triple.

Brady Sass (Caledonia Mumford) threw six solid innings in the nightcap but was the tough luck loser.  He allowed seven hits and one earned run while walking two and striking out five.  

The Pioneers scored in the 1st on a RBI single by Ryan Hierlwimmer (Livonia) but Beloit scored two unearned runs in the 2nd to gain the lead for good.  Patrick McKnight made the lead stick tossing a complete game three hitter (all single).  He walked one and struck out 11 in the game.

The blue & gold return to the diamond tomorrow when they are slated for a 12:30 p.m. doubleheader vs. Framingham State (MA).
