Pioneers Downed by Babson in Finale

The Alfred State baseball closed out the southern portion of their season following a 7-3 loss to Babson (MA) College.  Babson improves to 2-5 on the year.

The Pioneers trailed 4-1 heading into the 8th inning when they mounted a comeback.  Cullen Franz (Cazenovia) and Ryan Hierlwimmer (Livonia) collected RBI singles with one out in the inning.  The blue & gold looked to tie the game or take the lead but stranded runners on 1st and 2nd.

The Beavers answered back in the top of the 9th by collecting three runs on three hits to secure the victory.

Matthew Nawrot (Clarence) finished 2 for 4 for the Pioneers while Anthony Gonzalez (Florida/SS Seward) drove home a run with a single in the 2nd.

Chris Warren went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and George Crowley had two hits and drove in a pair of runs.  Connor Allen, who relieved starter Brody Loughlin in the eighth, closed things down in the bottom of the frame for his first save of the year. Loughlin earned the win allowing three runs on four hits while striking out three over 7 1/3 innings.

The Pioneers are back in action on Thursday when they are scheduled to travel to Penn College for a 2 p.m. doubleheader with the Wildcats.
