Pioneer Football Falls at Erie

Alfred State's offense could never get going as Erie CC defeated the Pioneers 30-7 in a Region III battle. The Pioneers are now 1-1 while the Kats are 1-2.

The Kats had the ball for nearly 20 minutes in the 1st. They took the opening possession and drove 62-yards to get on the board first on a 5-yard pass from Will Robinson to Nicholas Jones. On their next possession they put together a 14-play drive that ended with an interception in the red zone. On their 3rd possession they made it 10-0 when Ty Blackburn connected on a 45-yard field goal.

Erie made it 16-0 with 5:52 remaining when Dorian Polk returned an interception 40-yards for a score. The Kats made it 23-0 a minute later when Jacob Wims scored on a 14-yard run after Erie got the ball after recovering the ball on the kickoff.

The Pioneers lone score of the game on the ensuing kickoff when Shawn Charles (Rochester/Greece Olympia) returned the kickoff 90-yards for the score.

Early in the 4th quarter Will Robinson put the game out of reach with a three-yard scoring run.

The Pioneers offense accumulated just 44 yards on the day. They were slowed down by nine ECC sacks and four interceptions. ECC rushed for 307 yards led by Wims' 102 yards and Derick Peters' 99.

Alonzo Joyner (Queens/Info Tech High School) led the defense with 12 tackles. Michael Gibson (Capital Height, MD) had nine tackles, Carl Williams (Rochester/Greece Olympia) had eight, and Code Bradbury (Norwich) had seven. Keegan Phalen (East Aurora) picked off a pass and had a sack. Robert Howard (Syracuse/Nottingham) and Leandro DelRosario (Brooklyn/Thomas Edison) both recorded sacks and Brandt Rice (Ft. Myers, FL) had an interception.

Ken Robinson led Erie with six tackles and three sacks while Dorian Polk had six tackles and two interceptions.

The Pioneers will look to get back on track next weekend when they travel to Lancaster, PA to take on Stevens Tech. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m.
