Four Finish in Double Figures in Tight Battle with D'Youville

Four members of the Alfred State men's basketball team finished in double figures in a tight 80-73 loss at D'Youville on Tuesday afternoon. The Pioneers and Spartans were tied at 69-69 with just under three minutes left but the Spartans finished the game on on 11-4 run.

D'Youville and Alfred State battled back and forth in a game that featured four ties and eight lead changes. The Spartans held a 36-33 at half and the Pioneers led by as many as seven, 57-50 with 10:18 left in the 2nd half. 

Marquis Edwards (Queens/In-Tech Academy) led the Pioneers with 11 points while Dior Dixon (Brooklyn/Bishop Loughin), Robbie Adams (Jasper Troupsburg), and D'ondre Davis (Brooklyn/William Grady) all had 10. Adam Fezza (Southhampton) chipped in nine points while Tyrone Davis (Brooklyn/Benjamin Banneker) scored six and had a team best 11 boards.

The Pioneers shot 32.8% from the field and hit 28 of their 39 foul shots in the contest.

Jeremy VanDuluitgaarden came off the bench and led D'Youville with 22 points (6 for 10 shooting) and 10 boards. Marcus Clarke added 19 and Jake Socha finished with 15.

The Spartans shot 42.6% from the field, connected on nine 3-pointers, and was 19 for 28 from the foul line.

After short Thanksgiving break, the blue & gold host NCAA DII Mansfield on Saturday at 3 p.m.
