Late 1st Half Run Lifts Bengals

Maine Fort Kent closed out the 1st half on a 24-13 run and never allowed Alfred State closer than ten as the Bengals defeated the Pioneers 76-65 on Sunday afternoon.

After eight minutes the contest was knotted up at 13-13 before UMFK closed the half on a 24-13 run. The Bengals led by as many as 19 and held off numerous Pioneer comeback attempts. The Pioneers closed it to ten in the final minutes but couldn't get any closer.

Tyler Elliott (Perry) led a Pioneer trio in double figures. He finished 6 for 7 with 15 points and five boards. Marquis Edwards (Queens/In-Tech Academy) had 13 and Dante Jordan (New York/Law & Public Service) finished with 10 points and seven rebounds. 

The Pioneers shot 43.1% from the field but was only 2 for 9 from beyond the three-point arc. The blue & gold were 13 for 17 from the line but were slowed down by 19 turnovers.

Joe McCloskey led four Bengals in double-figures finishing with 19 points and eight boards. Marquis Glenn finished with 16 points and seven boards, Mauro Vicic finished with 13, and Jake Rioux added 11.

The Bengals shot 41.2% from the field and hit seven of their 21 three-point attempts. UMFK was solid at the line hitting 27 of 36 attempts.

The blue & gold have a few days off before hosting cross-county rival Houghton on Thursday. Opening tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
