Strong 2nd Half Lifts Canton Over Alfred

The SUNY Canton lacrosse team outscored Alfred State 9 to 2 in the 2nd half to erase a halftime deficit en route to a 16-11 victory on Sunday afternoon.

The Kangaroos scored three late goals in the 1st quarter to hold a 5-2 lead heading to the 2nd. Alfred responded by scoring seven of the 2nd quarters goals to grab a 9-7 halftime lead. Canton kept the Pioneers off the board in the 3rd while scoring to hold a 12-9 lead after three quarters.

Tanner Pratt netted six goals and passed out two assists to lead Canton while Jason Thompson had three goals and two assists.  Chris Gamble and Jack Keenan both scored three goals and had an assist.  The Kangaroos were 7 for 14 with the extra man in the contest.

Andrew Deligatti (Bedford Hills/Fox Lane) led the Pioneers with a hat trick.  Keegan Phalen (East Aurora) added two goals and two assists while Michael Maranga (Rockaway/St. Edmond) had two goals and an assist.  

Corey Spuck made 14 saves for Canton while Jonathan Caton (East Rochester) made 16 for Alfred.

Canton held a 48 to 36 shot advantage in the game and won 16 of the 28 faceoffs.

The Pioneers are back in action on Thursday when they take on Elmira College at 3:30 p.m.
