Big 3rd Quarter Costs Pioneers

Hilbert outscored Alfred State 7-1 in the 3rd quarter to take control of a close contest in the rain on Monday en route to a 16-7 victory.  The Pioneers trailed the Hawks 7-5 heading into the 3rd quarter.

Matthew Simon scored a goal in each quarter and led the Hawks with five points.  He was one of seven different Hawks that scored in the deciding 3rd quarter.  Tyler Nicoloff added three goals and an assist while Drew Ulbrich netted a hat trick.

David Ford (Elmont) and Keegan Phalen (East Aurora) both found the back of the net twice while Michael Maranga (Rockaway), Nate Spoor (Penn Yan), and John Garbowski (Mohegan Lake) all scored once.  Phalen led the team with seven ground balls while Garbowski picked up six.

The Pioneers trailed 5-3 after the 1st quarter and 7-5 at the break.  Hilbert held a 52 to 26 shot advantage (33 to 15 shots on goal).

Alfred State begins a three game homestand on Thursday with a 4 p.m. contest vs. St. John Fisher JV.
