New Era of Softball Starts Saturday

A new era of Alfred State softball team begins on Saturday in Myrtle Beach, SC. First year head coach Susan DeNillo and her team will look to improve each day as they move along their 38-game schedule.

Seniors Stormi Kruger (Medina) and Aubri Mosier (Rome, PA) will be counted on to anchor the line-up. Kruger, a three-time USCAA All-American shortstop, is a career .409 hitter (115 for 281) with 31 extra base hits and 68 RBI. Mosier, who returns to the outfield after an injury last season, is a .360 career hitter with 32 extra base hits and 62 RBI.

Trisha Shingleton (Byron Bergen), Courtney McDaniel (Arkport), Melissa Barber (Nassau/Catholic Central), Jillian Kahn (Dansville), and Alexis Bradshaw (Brighton) all return as well.

  • Shingleton has appeared in 35 games in her career and will see most of her time at 3B.
  • McDaniel collected 18 hits and 10 RBI last year.
  • Barber collected 15 hits and 12 RBI last year and will be the primary catcher.
  • Kahn appeared in 16 games last year after transfering from Monroe CC and will play in the outfield.
  • Bradshaw will see time at 1B or DH after appearing in 13 games last year.

On the mound, Jordan Leonard (Lancaster) will be counted on to pitch a bulk of the innings. Leonard tossed 86 innings during her freshmen campaign. Shingleton will also see some time on the mound.

Annie Corrao (Grand Island) and Steffanie Preston (Groton) return to the softball team after not playing the last two years. Corrao was a .302 hitter during 2014 season. Zoe Derr (Elmira Heights/Thomas Edison) is a transfer from Finger Lakes CC and will see significant time in the outfield along with Betsy Butlak (Lake Shore) who has ran cross country and track already this school year.

Crystal Kopec (Dundee) and Samantha Caba (Brooklyn/A Philip Randolph) will also see time and be asked to contribute.

The Pioneers are slated to play ten games during their week long trip to Myrtle Beach. They return home to face opponents from the Empire 8, the SUNYAC, the AMCC, and the Liberty League.
