Pioneers Tame Wildcats To Push Their Win Streak To Four

Utica, NY – The Pioneers notch their second straight sweep to push the win streak to four, as they take down SUNY Poly 3-0 (25-23, 25-13, 25-20). Alfred State moves to 7-4 on the year.

Racquel Gerstenberger led the way on offense, tallying 11 kills and four aces, to go along with her 11 digs. Nayomie Ferrer Santiago had an impactful game coming away with 30 assists, 16 digs, seven aces, and five kills.

The Pioneers got off to a slow start in set one and found themselves trailing 18-11. Following a Gene Doorley timeout, ASC went on a 6-2 run. That run featured two kills from Alayna Tomlinson, and kills from Summer Mattison, Ferrer, Gerstenberger, and Erin Gregoire. A few plays after a SUNY Poly timeout, the Pioneers cut the deficit to one, 23-22 and force another Wildcat timeout. From there, the Pios notched kills from Ferrer and Mattison, along with an error to win the set 25-23.

Alfred got set two going with a 6-1 run and never looked back as they followed with multiple 3-0 and 4-0 runs to take the set 25-13.

The third set started tightly contested, before Gregoire tallied three kills to take a 13-11 lead. After a Wildcat point, three errors followed by another Gregoire kill and a Tomlinson ace gave the Pioneers an 18-12 lead. Poly would make a run of their own before, Ferrer tallied an ace and a kill for the 22-19 lead. From there, Caitlyn Gilman tallied two kills for set and match point before Tomlinson and Gregoire came together for a block.

The Pioneers will travel up to SUNY Canton for a doubleheader against the Roos and Oswego tomorrow starting at 11 am.
