Alfred, NY- Alfred State had two double-doubles in tonight's First Round win over Mt. Aloysius 3-1 (25-22, 25-27, 25-20, 25-17).
Caitlyn Gilman set a new career-high in kills with 13, while Alayna Tomlinson set a new career-high with 20 digs as she also added 13 kills. Nayomie Ferrer Santiago ended the game with 40 assists and 15 digs. Racquel Gerstenberger also had double digit kill numbers with 14 kills.
The Pioneers opened the first set with a 6-2 run and never relinquished the lead to take set one 25-22. The Mounties responded and took set two.
In set three with the score 10-9 in ASC favor, Gerstenberger tallied a kill followed by an Adeline Milligan ace swung the momentum the Pioneers way. Following a MAC timeout, Gerstenberger notched kill and combined for a block with Gilman for the 15-9 lead. A few plays later, Ferrer and Gerstenberger put in kills for set point and Milligan ended the set with an ace.
The Pioneers carried that momentum into set four to win the match 3-1 and advance to the AMCC semifinals this Saturday.
