Santiago Surpasses 2000 Careers Assists As The Pioneers Tallied Two Wins

Alfred, NY- Pioneers finished their regular season schedule with two wins. Their first win was a 3-1 (20-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-14) victory over Mt Aloysius. Then they tallied a 3-0 (25-18, 25-11, 25-15) sweep over Elmira.

Mt Aloysius

Alayna Tomlinson led the way with a 10 kill and 12 dig double double. She also added a season-high seven aces. Nayomie Ferrer Santiago also had a double-double with 40 assists and 13 digs. Racquel Gerstenberger tallied 14 kills while Caitlyn Gilman added 10 kills of her own.

The Pioneers started slow as MAC took the first set, but turned it around in the second set. Mid way through the second set, Gerstenberger gave ASC the 11-9 lead with a kill. Then two plays later Tomlinson added a kill and Becca Brown followed with an ace for the 13-10 lead. A few plays later, Tomlinson put in another kill, while Emma Petrichick added an ace to force a MAC timeout. Following the timeout, the Pioneers found a way to win to tie the set score at 1-1.

In the third set, ASC found themselves down, 7-5 before going on a 7-0 run to take control of the set. On that run, Tomlinson tallied three aces, while Gerstenberger added a kill, and Erin Gregoire tallied a block. Later in the set, the Pioneers led 18-16, before Tomlinson notched a kill followed by three straight aces for the 22-16 lead. The Pios held on the that momentum to win that set and set four.

Elmira

Santiago tallied 29 assists including her 2000th assist, six aces, and nine digs. Gerstenberger put in 10 kills while Tomlinson notched nine kills.

The Pioneers carried the momentum from the first game into this one as they opened the first set 17-8. Following a few Elmira points Gerstenberger put in a kill, and Tomlinson followed with back-to-back kills. The Pios would go on to win the set 25-18.

Alfred State went on to win the next two sets as well to finish the regular season with a 16-8 record and a 7-2 record in conference play.
