Three Pioneers Tallied Double-Doubles

Altoona, PA- Alfred State dropped a hard-fought matchup against Penn State Altoona 3-2 (28-26, 11-25, 25-21, 26-28, 14-16). The Pioneers move to 13-8 on the season and 5-2 on conference play.  

Racquel Gerstenberger led the way with 19 kills and 20 digs. Alayna Tomlinson came away with 15 kills and 16 digs, while Nayomie Ferrer Santiago also tallied a double-double with 50 assists and 31 digs. Adeline Milligan added 15 digs, while Erin Gregoire added 12 kills.

In the first set the Pioneers found themselves down 13-4, before going on a 7-1 run to cut the gap to three, 14-11. A few plays later, ASC took their first lead of the set with a 4-0 run to make it 21-20. On that run, Tomlinson tallied two kills and Gabriella Thurmond added a kill as well. The Lions would fight back to tie the set at 26-26, before Thurmond notched a kill followed by an Altoona error to give the Pioneers set one.

Altoona responded to take set two, before the Pio's won a closely contested set three. In set three, Tomlinson tied the set at 18-18 with a kill, before Gerstenberger added a kill of her own. Tomlinson then put in an ace for the 20-18 lead. After trading points, Gerstenberger tallied a kill, and Tomlinson notched back-to back kills to take the set 25-21.

Penn State Altoona was able to force a set five and carried that momentum into set five to win the match 3-2.
