Men 9th, Women 11th At NYS Championships

The Alfred State men's cross country team finished 9th while the women finished 11th at the NYS Championships on Saturday held at the Hamilton College Golf Course.

The Pioneer men scored 270 points on the day for the 9th place finish.  St. Lawrence won the competition with 25 followed by RPI (69), Hamilton (75), Ithaca (89), Utica (124), Rochester (202), Cobleskill (233), Union (254), and Alfred State.  The blue & gold finished ahead of Nazareth (288), St. John Fisher (291) and Alfred University.

Jordan Rusek (Williamsville East) led the Pioneers with a 63rd place finish in the 8k course.  He crossed the finish line in 28:48.5.  Joe Seitz (Williamsville) was 78th (29:10.1), James Westman (Fonda Fultonville) was 81st (29:20.4), Dominic Freudenvoll (Greece Arcadia) was 86th (29:42.7), and Umang Dharamshi (Wappingers Falls) was 92nd (30:15.0).

The Lady Pioneers scored 339 points to earn the 11th place finish.  St. Lawrence won the women's title with 34 followed by Ithaca (64) nd Hamilton (77).

Kim Lupo (Auburn) finished the 6k course in 26:40.5 to earn 93rd place to lead the blue & gold. Kelly Healy (Maple Hill) was 99th (27:20.4), Mikaela Shaw (Attica) was 119th (28:54.8), Leah Foley (Marion) was 127th (31:13.8), and Katherine Gelser (Keshequa) was 127th (32:36.4).

Alfred State now turns its focus to the USCAA Championships.  The National Championships will be hosted by SUNY ESF on Friday Nov. 8th.
