Pioneer Q&A - Steven Carpenter

Pioneer Q&A - Steven Carpenter

Each semester Sport Management students complete a field experience within the Alfred State athletic department. One of the assignments this semester for the field experience is that each member of the class profile a current student-athlete with a Q&A session.

Recently, Lauryn Courteau interviewed track & field athlete Steven Carpenter. Carpenter, a junior, has recently completed the indoor season and has moved on to outdoor competition.

Q: Where are you from and where did you go to high school? Tioga PA, Williamson Jr./Sr. High School

Q: What is your favorite sports team? I would have to say the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Q: What major are you in? My major is architecture.

Q: What got you involved in Track & Field? All of my older cousins did track and I always thought it looked fun so when I got old enough to do track I joined my high school track team and just stuck with it, and carried it over to college.

Q: What events do you participate in? The track events that I participate in are the 110m hurdles, the 100m dash, and also sometimes the 4x400.

Q: If a younger athlete came to you, what advice would you give them about Track & Field? I would give them the advice that some days are harder than others at practice, and that you just have to push through and it'll be a breeze.

Q: Who has been most influential in your Track & Field career? I really wouldn't say there was a big influence. I mostly did track for myself and didn't really pay attention to others.

Q: What made you choose Alfred State? I chose Alfred State because it was the right amount of distance away from home, and I really liked how the campus was. It just felt like a good place to go to college.

Q: What do you currently do in your training that is a key to your success? With my training the key to my success is just to keep telling myself it'll be over soon and in the end it'll be worth it.

Q: Favorite after meet meal? My favorite after meet meal is getting to go to Wegmans and getting whatever sounds good to me that day.
