Baseball: 1-7

The Pioneers had a busy week as they played as they played six games in six days including five games in the last three days. 

In a 10-0 loss at St. John Fisher, Matteo Avallone (Mahopac/Bridgton Academy) collected the lone extra base hit for the blue & gold, hitting a double in the 4th.

Jon White (Clarence) threw six innings and allowed four hits and two runs while walking three and striking out four in a 2-1 loss in game one vs. Houghton. Brody Burdett (Scottsdale, AZ) hit a solo homer.

Justin LoTemple (Greece Athena) was the only Pioneer with multiple hits in game two (L 11-8) vs. Houghton finishing 2 for 5 with a three-run homer and 4 RBI. Avallone also hit a solo homer.

Avallone was 4 for 7 on the day on Sunday at the team battled Cortland. The Red Dragons took both ends of a doubleheader, 6-2 and 8-1.

On Monday evening, the Pioneers stranded 13 and couldn't rally all the way back in the 9th and fell 4-3 to Houghton. Christopher Mattoon (Elmira) was impressive in his first collegiate start. He tossed 7.2 innings allowing four hits and three earned runs while walking two and striking out seven.

Cross Country:

The cross country will head to Pittsburgh, PA on Sunday to compete in the 2021 AMCC Championships hosted by La Roche. Both teams will run a 5k course.

Men's Basketball: 1-1 in exhibition games

The Pioneers split a pair of contests with Hilbert this past week. They fell 82-79 in overtime at Hilbert on Thursday but bounced back for a 67-49 victory at home on Saturday.

Women's Basketball:

The Blue team took a tight hard fought victory over the White team as the women's basketball team wrapped up their COVID shortened season.

Softball: 2-0

The softball team swept a pair of games from Elmira on Saturday afternoon as they opened up the 2021 season. They took the opener 7-6 and the nightcap 8-4. 

Kailey Wonica (Staten Island/Moore Catholic) finished 3 for 5 with a RBI in the opener while Jade Parsons (Ovid/South Seneca) was 2 for 3 with 3 RBI. Sarah Boyce (Cortland) also collected two hits, finishing 2 for 4. Brittany Fisher (Indianapolis, IN) got the win with a complete game effort. She allowed 11 hits and two earned runs while walking three and striking out ten.

Wonica kept it going in game two. She led the way with a 2 for 5, 3 RBI day while Krista Lovell (Addison) and Emma Smithers (Waterloo) were each 2 for 4. Boyce finished 2 for 5 with a pair of RBI. Audrey Farrell (York/Notre Dame) allowed five hits and three earned runs to earn the victory in a complete game effort on the mound. She walked six and struck out five.

Men's Swimming & Diving: 0-1

The men's swimming & diving team opened up the 2021 season with a trip to Niagara University to compete with the NCAA DI Purple Eagles. 

Stuart Yates (Naples) and Westin Perry (Canisteo Greenwood) led the way for the Pioneers. Yates was 2nd in the 100 breast (1:02.75) and 2nd in the 50 breast (28.55) while Perry was 2nd in the 100 back (55.92) and 3rd in the 50 back (26.54).

Austin Miller (Hornell) was 2nd in the 1m diving (198.60) and 2nd in the 3m diving competition (195.68), Riley Hoyt (Tulsa, OK) was 3rd in the 500 free (5:15.97), and Jack Friedah (York, PA) was 3rd in the 50 fly (25.72) and 4th overall in the 100 fly (58.13).

Women's Swimming & Diving: 0-1

The women's swimming & diving team opened up their season on Saturday vs. NCAA DI opponent Niagara University. 

Mikaela Snayczuk (Machias/Pioneer) was 2nd in the 50 breast (32.74), 3rd in the 100 breast (1:12.76), 3rd in the 50 fly (31.03). Lily Holmes (Liverpool) was 3rd in the 50 free (35.27) and 4th in the 100 free (1:23.20). while Molly Foxe (Cheektowaga) was 4th in the 1 meter diving competition with a score of 128.55.

Track & Field:

The track & field team has shifted their focus to the upcoming outdoor season. They are slated to begin competition outdoors on April 9th.
