Pair of Pioneers Named Preseason All Conference
Alfred State sophomore Alison Sell (Hanover, PA) and freshmen David Whiting (Camilus/West Genesee) have been honored with preseason All-AMCC honors by CollegeSwimming.com.
Sell was selected for three events. The 100 breast, the 200 breast, and the 200 fly. Sell qualified for the ECAC Championships last year and swam a season best 1:09.41 in the 100 breast.
Whiting was honored for the 50 Free and the 100 Fly. Whiting was a state Qualifier in 100 fly his senior year (35th place) and 200 Freestyle Relay.
The Pioneer swim team became members of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference this summer and will compete in the conference championship on February 9-11 at Penn State Behrend. Alfred State is also an affiliate member of the AMCC in lacrosse and will become an affiliate member in baseball in 2018.
Nearly nine-hundred Division III swimmers have been named to the 2016-17 CollegeSwimming pre-Season All-Conference team. The website selected honorees from thirty-one predominantly Division III conferences. In total 174 teams placed swimmers into the top two of their conference's respective events. Selections were based on the times of both returning and incoming swimmers (through September 1st) with input from coaches and sports information contacts.
