Lady Pioneers Can't Rally All the Way Back

The Alfred State women's basketball team never led in their contest vs. Bard but had three shots in the final minute to send the game into overtime. None of the shots would fall as the Lady Raptors defeated the Lady Pioneers 40-38 in the second day of the Roos Classic at SUNY Canton.

Bard jumped out to a 6-0 lead and held a 23-11 at the break. The Raptors led 31-18 with just over twelve minutes left when the Lady Pioneers made their comeback. The Pioneers went on a 20 to 9 run to cut the game to 40-38 with one minute remaining. Alfred State had three chances to tie the game but none would fall and the Raptors were able to hold on.

Haley Witchella (Oxford) led Alfred St. with 15 points and 16 rebouds. Helena Covington (Elmira Free) added seven, Jennifer Fedrick (Buffalo/Bennett) had six points and 10 rebounds, and Briana Meehan (Whitesville) had six. The Lady Pioneers shot just 22.2% from the field, was 2 of 16 from three, and hit on 8 of 14 from the foul line.

Bianka Bell led the Raptors with 12 points while Tytravia Riley added 10. The Raptors shot 24.1% from the field, connected on three of 12 three point attempts, and was 9 of 12 from the foul line.

The blue & gold are back in action on Dec. 1st when they host Wells at 5:30 p.m.
