Lady Pioneers Fall Just Short vs. Fort Kent

The Alfred State women's soccer team gave #1 seed Maine Fort-Kent all they could handle but fell 2-1 to Lady Bengals in the USCAA National Championship semifinals on Friday afternoon. Fort Kent improves to 16-1-1 while Alfred State is now 12-5-1.

Fort Kent got on the board just 59 seconds into the game when Marie Laurence Montagne drove around the defense and chipped it into the back of the net.

Alfred held the potent Bengal offense board until the 85th minute when Katherine Ferland drove a shot that went off the hands of the Lady Pioneer goalie and into the net.

Hannah Holmok (Alfred Almond) cut the lead in half with just 1:23 remaining when she cashed in on a penalty kick after a handball in the box.

Alfred tried to keep the pressure up but was unable to get the equalizer before the final horn.

Fort Kent held a 19 to 9 shot advantage in the contest.  Krista DeCarlo (West Islip) made six saves for Alfred while Kimika Forbes made five.

The Bengals have allowed just four goals on the season and have won 15 of their 16 games via shutout.  Fort Kent will be making their 4th straight trip to the USCAA Finals (2010 & 2011 Champions).
