Women Open Season at Houghton December Classic

The Alfred State Women's Track and Field season opened today at the Houghton December Classic.

Some Highlights from today's opening meet:

Emma Taggart placed sixth in the women's 60m hurdles. She had a time of 9.58, proving a good start to her indoor season. She qualified for the final 60m hurdle race and came in eighth place. Taggart broke the Alfred State school record for the 60m hurdles.

In the women's 600m race, Sarah Rivet finished in tenth place. Her time of 1:53.75 was a full second ahead of the runner behind her. Rivet is coming off an all-conference cross country season and had a successful start to her indoor track season.

In the Women's 800m two Pioneers finished in the top ten. Isabelle Popoff and Laura Ferris finished seventh and eighth respectively. The Pioneers were separated by half a second. Popoff finished with a time of 2:42.71 and Ferris finished with a time of 2:43.26.

The women's 4x200 ended with the Pioneers placing third. Maddy Cole, Alexis Clark, Emma Taggart, Sarah Rivet all took part in the 1:53.94 time, good enough for a spot in the top three.

In the 4x400 the Pioneers finished in fourth. Isabelle Popoff, Lily Schnell, Andi Williamson, Laura Ferris finished with a time of 4:38.97.

In the women's weight throw first-year student-athlete Tobi Adebowale finished in fourth place. With a distance of 14.2, she netted a top five finish in the first track event of the season. Adebowale also qualified for the AARTFC meet with today's throw. 

Emma Taggart tied for first in the women's high jump event. Getting a height of 1.51, she tied with three other competitors for the top spot.

The Pioneers are back in action at Nazareth next week on December 9.
